Mods, rebuilt — fill the rails, earn the set
Mods have always been the fiddly bit. The old system linked them across your whole build in a great invisible web — powerful, occasionally, but impossible to read and quietly impossible to plan around. So we tore it out and started again, this time with a rule you can actually see.
One module, one set
Every weapon has drive slots — one at low rarity, up to four at Legendary. Fill all of a module's slots with mods of the same category, and that module lights up with a set bonus:
- 2 slots matched → +40%
- 3 slots → +90%
- 4 slots → +160%
- 5 slots → +250%
Mix categories and you get nothing but the mods' own stats. Match them and the numbers get silly. The payoff is the complete set, so there's a real decision on every rail.

Mods know where they belong
We got stricter, on purpose. A Kinetic mod only fits a kinetic gun; an Energy mod only fits an energy weapon; Ordnance slots into anything that goes bang. Try to jam the wrong kind into a module and it bounces — red flash, plain-English reason, no wasted credits. An energy mod in a ballistic cannon never did anything anyway; now the shop just tells you so.
Every slot on a module's card is a little drive icon — steel-grey for Kinetic, cyan for Energy, orange for Ordnance, gold for Targeting — so a full matched set reads as one clean colour at a glance.
Drones get in on it
Attack drones aren't second-class citizens anymore: gun and missile drones carry their own mod slots, take the same categories, and earn the same set supercharge. Slot three matching mods into a gun drone and it hits like it means it.
And because it was frankly weird that you could combine two weapons straight from the bar but not two drones — you can now merge, sell, and re-mod drones from the exact same place, the exact same way.
One more slot
Finally, a rare little toy: the Slot Extender. Bolt it onto any single weapon for +1 drive slot, up to a maximum of five. A maxed-out Legendary plus an Extender is the only road to the full five-mod set — and that eye-watering +250%. The manual describes the procedure as "perfectly safe," a reassurance the manual also extends to reactor overrides and unlabelled buttons.
Go build something matched.
